Symbols can mean different things in different articles. Definitions below are shown only when an equation guide or its article provides one; otherwise the entry identifies where to read the equation in context.
Symbol k_i: the rate constant of step i , and the partial derivative is taken holding the equilibrium constant Ki of that step fixed (so that only kinetics, not thermodynamics, is perturbed) and all other rate constants constant.
Symbol L_eff: a measured variable — specific to a task, a threshold, a benchmark design, and a date — and every result surveyed above shows it running well below W well before W is reached.
Symbol L_rm P: where mass stops being a fixed label and becomes something an object can carry a little more or less of depending on what it is doing internally.
